Berlin is home to 553 AI companies generating a combined revenue of around €2.4 billion, 61% of them are startups3. This strong startup presence makes Berlin Germany’s leading AI startup hub, with 283 AI startups based in the city4. Berlin’s AI ecosystem stands out for the diversity of actors shaping it. World-class research institutions, including two national AI competence centers, form its foundation, while innovative startups and established corporates drive the development and application of AI solutions. Collaboration is strengthened by hubs and internationally recognized events that bring the community together, alongside initiatives for knowledge transfer that translate research into solutions and support businesses in adopting AI. With close proximity to policymakers, growing infrastructure, and outstanding AI talent from around the world, Berlin offers a uniquely interconnected environment where a wide range of players work together to advance “AI made in Berlin.”

Trustworthy

Berlin’s AI ecosystem is strongly business-focused: 91% of AI companies develop B2B solutions, with key application areas including healthcare, manufacturing, mobility, and finance. At the same time, Berlin is home to internationally recognized research in explainable and trustworthy AI, alongside companies that translate these insights into real-world applications. The capital contributes significantly to Germany’s strong standing in trustworthy AI, with the country ranking second worldwide5. In the international race for technological leadership, AI made in Europe—application-oriented, comprehensible, and trustworthy—is increasingly valued in the business-to-business sector and also gaining importance among private users, with Berlin providing important momentum.
